VILLAGE OF CAMERON REGULAR BOARD MEETING

MONDAY, AUGUST 10, 2020

6:00 P.M.

CAMERON COMMUNITY CENTER

            The Cameron Village Board met in regular session on Monday, August 10, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at the Cameron Community Center.  Members present: Ben Hester, Steve Johnson, Dave Ebner, Russ Hulback, Randy Hill, with Mark Trowbridge presiding. Absent: Tim Wall.

 

            Also present: Jaden Ebert, Dave Armstrong, and Mike Lynch.

 

            The minutes of the July 13, 2020 regular meeting were mailed out prior to the meeting. Dave Ebner moved to approve the minutes of the July 13, 2020 regular meeting as printed, second Steve Johnson.  Carried 6-0

 

            The August payables were presented in printed form.  Ben Hester moved to approve the payment of the August payables, with additions as printed, second Dave Ebner. Carried 6-0

 

APPEARANCES:

            Public Comment: There were no public comments.

            Bill Koepp was not in attendance.

            Jaden Ebert submitted his written report and added that the State came in last week and conducted a safety inspection. Jaden stated that the inspector told him that it went well and she will email her final report to him the following week.

            Mike Lynch submitted his written report and had nothing to add.

            Dave Armstrong from Barron County Economic Development Commission, appeared before the board and gave an update on the economy and how it has affected Barron County. Dave stated the overall economy tanked in March due to COVID-19, but showed improvement in May and June. Pre-COVID they generally had 550 jobs in the County that would need filling, but not nearly as many now. They have been working with businesses to try to keep them going through these rough times, helping them attain grants and loans. Dave also stated that the biggest need in the County is housing, but they do have a few investors looking at property in the area, including Cameron.

 

Bartender license application for Krista S. Buckwalter was presented for approval. Russ Hulback moved to approve the bartender license for Krista S. Buckwalter provided all criteria have been met, second Ben Hester. Carried 6-0

 

A cigarette license application was presented for approval from Dollar General.  Russ Hulback moved to approve the cigarette license, second Steve Johnson.  Carried 6-0

 

OLD BUSINESS

            Mark Trowbridge was looking for approval from the board to authorize the Police Department to work with the Village Attorney on getting some of the “Nuisance” properties cleaned up. Chief Lynch feels that his department has done all that they can do with a few of the owners. Steve Johnson moved to authorize the Police Department to utilize the Village Attorney to aid in getting some of the “Nuisance” properties cleaned up, second Dave Ebner. Carried 6-0

 

NEW BUSINESS

            Gary Strand from Cooper Engineering noticed that the south fence on the property the Village recently purchased from Sue and Lee Romsos appears to be about 12’ into the property and the neighbors garden is tight to the fence. Gary recommend having it surveyed to verify where the line is before approaching the neighbor about their garden. Dave Ebner moved to hire Matt Shilts to survey the property the Village recently purchased from Sue and Lee Romsos, second Russ Hulback. Carried 6-0

            Dave Ebner reported that the Street Committee met and reports that Romsos Avenue project is on schedule. Dave reported that the Safe Routes to School Project should be let out for bids. Dave also reported that Fahrner will be finishing the crack filling and painting project approved at last month’s board meeting.

            Mark Trowbridge requested to appoint Tim Wall to the Personnel Committee to utilize his expertise and knowledge in dealing with employees. Dave Ebner moved to approve the appointment of Tim Wall to the Personnel Committee, second Ben Hester. Carried 6-0

            Mark Trowbridge was approached by the Chairman of the Town of Stanley requesting the Village Board lower the speed limit on Creamery Road from Highway 8 south to the village limits.  Ben Hester moved to have the Village Attorney draft up an Ordinance to lower the speed limit on Creamery Road to 45 from Highway 8 south to the village limits, second Russ Hulback. Carried 6-0

            Russ Hulback wanted to inform the board that the generator at the Village Hall is up and running.

 

As there was no further business to attend to, at 7:01 Ben Hester moved to adjourn, second Dave Ebner. Carried 6-0
